“ Lasting the Years”
by Kenny Fedder
Mixed emotions throughout my past, tossed in are some regrets.
Good friends I must remember, times I long to forget.
Working hard to get ahead, then slowing down to rest.
Running through the stop signs, trying to be the best.
The years all go so quickly by, they blur when looking back.
Months are days and days are weeks: no way I’m keeping track.
When sunshine is there in front of me my shadows live behind.
Yet they’re blended all together, stirred up inside my mind.
Thoughts of what I should have done, some things I need to say.
Smiles and tears all tangled up in shades of blue and gray.
There’s a love so deep and tender, a special kind of friend.
To trust and cherish always, “the kiss” that has no end.
From where it started days ago, we’re living in the vow.
I stood beside you then my love; you stand beside me now.
Life sure never stays the same and seeks to make us small.
When we’re building up each other, we stand together tall.
Still leaning, resting on our God, who’s been here from the start.
Helping guide our wandering feet, while speaking to our hearts.
Teach us to share the love you give in ways we may not know.
Amidst the fields of broken dreams, to water seeds you’ve sown.
We’ll all be there at harvest time to see the vastness of your grace.
While we gaze upon your glory Lord, in one amazing place.
