Beyond Walls

by Kenny Fedder

I had to shed a tear today, I had to sit and cry.

While thinking of the way we live, I have to wonder why.

Why are there walls between us, we build to keep us safe?

Then hide behind for months or years, while love is what we crave.

We want to have relationships, but rarely ever share.

Ignoring suffering we may see, as if we just don’t dare.

To open hearts for someone new, it’s better not to know

About the pain that others have, how will we ever grow?

It’s really such a pity; it’s more than just a shame.

Some love we take for granted, some love we take in vain.

We’ll use, abuse then use again till all the love is gone.

We think about what’s good for us, while others get what’s wrong.

It’s not about us my friend and not about the now.

It’s more about the trust we have and understanding how

To use the talents that God gave, for others we may see.

Looking out beyond your wall, whatever could there be?

Besides that loving face you see in mirrors everyday.

There’s a world with new horizons, there’s so much more to say.

So mend your life and fix it up to serve the common good.

Don’t hide behind what you can’t do; your jacket has a hood.

Well take it off and look around, without those blinders on.

You’ll see small things that you can do, before this day is done.

And when those dark clouds gather round, you’ll feel the sun shine down.

From all the friends that you have made, the love that you have found.

Cause in your wall there’ll be a door, you’ll open up to find

A world where walls are broken down and never hid behind.
